How do I create a snapshot / snapshot policy?
This article explains how to create a snapshot using the CAEVES system, which allows administrators to capture snapshots of metadata volumes to maintain data integrity and enable quick recovery in case of issues. Snapshots can also be scheduled automatically according to a defined frequency.
Steps to Configure a Snapshot Policy
1. Open the CAEVES application
-
Launch the CAEVES application.
-
This opens the main configuration interface.

2. Navigate to the “Volume Configuration” Tab
-
Click the Volume Configuration tab.
-
You’ll see a list of all configured Metadata Volumes and their Endpoints.
- At the bottom of the window, locate the Advanced Configuration section.
Set the Snapshot Frequency
-
In the Advanced Configuration section at the bottom of the window, you can view the current snapshot frequency.
-
Click the Edit button and enter the desired snapshot frequency in hours.
- For example, setting it to 24 hour
-
Click Apply to save the changes and Click Apply Configuration
-
Ensure that the service is running : FileCloudGatewayService
-
If it is not running, start the service or restart it to apply the new configuration.
To Restart the Service: FileCloudGatewayService
-
Open the Services window:
-
Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
-
Type services.msc and press Enter.
-
-
Locate the service: FileCloudGatewayService
-
In the Services window, scroll through the list and find the service named FileCloud GatewayService.
-
-
Restart the Service:
-
Right-click on the Service.
-
Select Restart from the context menu.
(If the Restart option is greyed out, choose Stop, wait a few seconds, then click Start.)
-
-
Verify the Service Status:
-
Ensure the Status column shows Running.
-
Once the service restarts, the new snapshot frequency configuration will be applied successfully.
-

Once the service is running and the configuration is applied, snapshots will be created in Azure under the caevessnapshot container at the defined frequency.

Now, you are able to create a snapshot.
